Background
Since the creation of the master of criminal justice and master of public administration programs at Wichita State University a significant number of law enforcement personnel have enrolled in courses in the Master of Public Administration degree program. Many have done this in order to prepare themselves for managerial responsibilities within law enforcement. Some have the intent of becoming a chief of police. Others are looking forward to a position in local government following their retirement from law enforcement. This graduate certificate gives these students a way to specialize whether they are enrolled in the Master of Public Administration program or the Master of Science in criminal justice degree program.
Admission
Intended for law enforcement personnel who desire to become managers within their departments or ultimately become a chief of police.

Program Requirements
Students must be admitted to the Graduate School. Students must complete four courses (12 credit hours). Two courses (6 credit hours) are required in criminal justice and two are required in public administration (6 credit hours). In addition to these requirements, students must meet the Graduate School’s requirements in order to earn this certificate.
