BA in Creative Writing

Program Requirements

A minimum total of 120 credit hours is required for the BA in creative writing. In addition to meeting the requirements of the WSU General Education Program and the requirements of Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, students must meet the following requirements:

A student planning to major in creative writing must complete ENGL 101 and ENGL 102 and thereafter complete 33 credit hours of coursework in English, including the following courses. A minimum of 24 credit hours must be taken at the upper-division (300 or above) level.

Required major courses may also count towards General Education and/or LAS Competencies. Students will need to select additional electives to reach 120 credit hours required for graduation with assistance from an advisor.

Applied Learning

Students in the BA in creative writing program are required to complete an applied learning or research experience to graduate from the program. The requirement can be met by successful completion of one of two courses: ENGL 401 Fiction Workshop or ENGL 403 Poetry Workshop.
