The industrial, systems and manufacturing engineering (ISME) department at WSU specializes in education and research in the design, analysis and operation of manufacturing and other integrated systems involving people, material, equipment and capital. The department offers curricula and educational experiences designed and continuously improved based on the input from its constituents: students, alumni, potential employers of our graduates, and faculty.
The ISME department offers two undergraduate degree programs: a Bachelors of Science in industrial engineering (BSIE) and a Bachelors of Science in product design and manufacturing engineering (BSPDME). Both engineering degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET1.
The department also offers three graduate degree programs: Master of Engineering Management (MEM), Master of Science in industrial engineering (MSIE), and PhD in industrial engineering. Both the MSIE and MEM programs allow concentrations in data analytics, operations research and systems engineering, production and supply chain analytics, quality and reliability, manufacturing engineering and automation, and human systems engineering.
Modern, well-equipped laboratories are available to supplement classroom theory in ergonomics, manufacturing engineering, process automation and Industry 4.0. The department’s facilities include the Manufacturing Processes Lab, Metrology Lab, Reliability Lab, Rapid Prototyping and Product Development Lab, Sustainable Engineering Systems Lab, and Industry 4.0 Lab. Students in the academic programs offered by the ISME department get ample opportunity to work on real-life manufacturing and service industry problems as part of course requirements.
